LADIES REACH PLATE FINAL
The team for the final against West Down in St Anne's Dungannon on Saturday 12 February shows one late change from that which was successful against Foyle. Pat Barnes has had to withdraw and has been replaced by Kathleen McKenna. The game starts at 2pm and dress is as usual. It is hoped that as many as possible will come along and support the ladies.
A meal has been arranged for both teams on Saturday 27 February with details to be confirmed.
Mid Ulster Ladies played Foyle in the semi final of this year’s plate competition and came out on top to reach the final where they will play West Down probably on Saturday 21 February at a venue to be decided. This was a good performance by the ladies who have progressed well since disappointingly losing to a South Tyrone team who have now reached the final of the main competition. The damage was really done in the first half when the home side were dominant. On mat 1, the rink of E Brown, P Barnes, A Barnes and M Paul were in control throughout restricting their opponents to three single shots in their 13 – 3 win. On mat 2, Shiela Anderson, E Slaine, M McIvor and J Wilson came back from 4 – 1 down after 4 ends to totally dominate the remaining 6 ends in which they scored 16 shots to finish 17 – 6 up. On mat3, T Dardis, D Young, O Kyle and A McEldowney were never behind and but for the unlucky loss of a three in the seventh end would have won more convincingly than the 10 – 9 score. Mid Ulster were up 40 – 18 at the interval with only a major collapse threatening their win. On mat 1, in the second half B Davidson, T McKenna, D McHugh and M Davidson suffered a very rare defeat. 8 ends were decided by single shots but unfortunately the visitors picked up two threes in the other two ends to finish 10 – 4 up. On mat 2, E Wright, G Simms, H Greer and I Colvin led until the 7th end when they conceded a five followed by a two to e 11 – 7 down. The home rink squared the game in the next end by picking up a four and with the overall game decided the last end was not played. In the final game M B Higgins, M Lagan, J Fulton and M Mallon led from the start and also restricted their opponents to single shots. The four picked up in the 7th end proved decisive in their 9 – 4 win. The overall score was 60 – 43 in Mid Ulster’s favour.
